The 'Voluntary Aid Detachments (VADs)',  were of vital importance in providing humanitarian aid to naval and military forces during the war at home and abroad. They did many fundraising events throughout the war. Unknown exactly what this bag was used for. We have another bag similar in size and shape that was given to men returning to the front that had some compforts as the contents. This could have been used the same way.
